You know it's gonna be a good day when...

It's a well-known fact that our youngest 2 children occasionally wake up before Dave and I.  Today was one of those days.  It is Dave's day off and we were laying in bed, trying to get in a few more "minutes" of sleep after a RESTLESS night of our 2 yr old kicking us and laying on us all night!  We heard Jacob get up and sent Brooklyn off to watch cartoons with him.  After a couple of minutes, they both came in asking for Eggnog, the drink of choice among those two.  I must have been really tired, because I consented to letting Jacob get it out of the fridge and pour a glass for the 2 of them!  It never occurred to me that he would not grab the eggnog, because he KNOWS everything a 4 yr old can know about eggnog:  where you get it at the store, how the bigger one is cheaper than the small one, how you can mix eggnog and milk to make eggnog-milk to make it last longer, etc!  Until, after a few more minutes of total silence in the kitchen, we hear this little voice at the side of our bed, quietly whisper, "mom, I think the eggnog is rotten."  I was laughing sooooo hard, because, unbeknownst to him, I had bought a container of buttermilk for a recipe and it got placed in front of the eggnog in the fridge last night!  What rotten disappointment for our little guy, as we can only imagine the mouth-watering anxiety of that first taste of eggnog in his mouth!  Sorry Jacob!

So, another cute story for the day.  We just got home from Dave's parents house and I was getting lunch ready for the kids so I could then put them down for their naps.  (Much needed as NONE of them have napped in the last 3 days!)  I look over and see Brooklyn standing on top of the CD case, Madison kneeling beside her and hear this:  (Madison whispering to Brooklyn)                                              I...promise...to...obey...the...commandments...in...the...name...of...Jesus...Christ...Amen!
Then Madison gives Brooklyn an award medal to hang around her neck and tells her what a great job she just did on her first Primary talk!

Have I ever mentioned how much I LOVE these kids!  They are AMAZING!

small talk...big heart!

I LOVE my two little nieces in SLC!  Madison has grown up with her cousin since day one of her life!  They have had numerous play dates, sleepovers, trips to the zoo, museum and Idaho, and share every little holiday with eachother, one way or another!  Unfortunately, last year, school put a damper in these little girls lives, as Briana started kindergarten.  This year, Madison started kindergarten and Briana went to 1st grade.  So now our play dates are far and few between and we all live for the moments we get to see eachother...limited to the weekends!  We are so blessed to live so close and to see the friendship that has developed between the two!

The other day, Dave and I were heading out of town and Jacob and Madison were going to my sisters to have a sleep-over while we were gone.  They had packed their bags the minute they woke up!  It was pretty cute...they packed as if they would be gone a week!  I called my sister to see if there was anything I needed to bring down to her and then talked to my niece for a minute.  Here is our conversation:
Me:  I am bringing the kids for a sleepover...what treats can I bring you?
Briana:  I just had a treat last night.  (she is not big on sugar! Crazy girl!)
Me:  It doesn't have to be candy or food, it can be whatever you want!
Briana:  Okay...then can you bring Madison, can she be my treat?

My heart just melted!  Such simplicity for a little child!  Forget the candy and the fun little treats we usually send...it means nothing compared to the friendship these two little girls have!  Together, they usually have it all, what more can you ask for?

Let them be little...: Melaleuca Oligo-fructose compounded vitamins

Let them be little...: Melaleuca Oligo-fructose compounded vitamins

Melaleuca Oligo-fructose compounded vitamins

I have been a member of Melaleuca, The Wellness Company, for about 15 years now, and I love their products!  Just last year, they made a scientific breakthrough on their vitamins, by discovering the oligo-fructose compound that allows our bodies to absorb more of the nutrients in vitamins.  They are continually updating and searching for better health products to promote a healthy lifestyle and body.

I have been taking their previous vitamins for many years, especially during pregancy.  They have worked wonders, especially when it comes to my energy level.  However, just this month I ordered the new oligo-fructose pre-natal vitamins (no I'm not pregnant) and have been taking them for 3 days.  I noticed almost immediately how well my body responded to them.  It really curved my cravings for sugar and snacks.  I really believe I was missing essential vitamins in my body, more than likely from poor diet!  We have been working on improving our diet and coming up with healthy and creative recipes at home.  We have significantly reduced the amount of white flour and replaced it in almost all of our baking with 1/2 wheat flour, even in our desserts!  It's amazing!

Anyhow, If you are interested in learning more about the oligo-fructose vitamins and the benefits of them on your body, and if you are pregnant, the benefits for your little one too, check out the link at http://www.melaleuca.com/.

They also have the SAFEST cleaning products that I have seen, which is a relief for a mom of 3 small children.  I am completely impressed with their sol-u-guard disinfectant that we use all day long, to keep the "yucky" bugs out of our house.  With the switch in the vitamins for both myself and my children, the safety of the cleaning products and the disinfectant, we have thus far, had a VERY healthy year!

Thank you Melaleuca!

Camping 2009

Growing up it was expected that we would spend most of our summer vacation camping.  I loved it.  Going to Redfish Lake was a favorite spot for me.  Unfortunately, Dave and I have never taken our kids camping until this last summer.  I regret to say that it was to the ward campout, and wasn't even in the mountains, back country.  It was a horrible weekend for a campout, but we endured well, and made up for the lack of sleep by taking a huge nap the next afternoon!  The winds were high, a train track ran right next to the campsite and "tooted" it's horn ALL night long and we woke up to a crazy rain storm.  Thank heavens for the heated hot tubs!

Take ME Out To The Ball Game...

My wonderful husband, who has been gone most of the summer, drove home late one night, came into the bedroom, (3:00 a.m.) and told me to pack my bags, we were leaving by 6:00 a.m.!

Now in my "tired" state, I tried to make sense of who would watch the kids, how I would miss the ward birthday breakfast and my correlation meeting on Sunday...but I couldn't pass THIS up:
It has been a dream of mine since I was little to attend a Major League Baseball Game, and in particular, the Rockies!  It was even better, because they were playing the Cubs that night!
Although they lost that night, they won the previous night and the next 2 nights!
Go ROCKIES!

We didn't get a rental car on this trip, so it was really fun trying to figure out the transportation system from the airport, to the stadium, to our hotel and all around town.  We ended up using the train station daily for our transportation.  The stadium was just to the right of the union station and an outside mall, where only walking is allowed, was just to the left of it.  Needless to say, we did a LOT of walking, and talking and enjoying each other!  Thanks babe, for an incredible birthday present!
(one more item crossed off the "bucket list")

Brooklyn, We all love you so much!  Thank you for bringing so much happiness, laughter and sunshine into our family!

Our little "Ookie"

When Brooklyn was first born, everyone in our family each had a different nickname for her, such as pumpkin little, Brookly, bubba goo, and Brookie. Jacob, being just 2 1/2 decided he needed one as well, and came up with "ooka", which has occasionally changed to "ookie". Many people are concerned as she tells them her name is "ooka"! Thus, the title of this blog!

We have been so blessed to have this sweet (but lately naughty) little girl in our lives. Her timing was perfect! It was rough at first, as we had the ups and downs of wondering if the baby would make it and if I was really indeed pregnant or miscarrying. After the confusion settled, several blood tests and a second opinion given, we celebrated the fact that we would have another little one joining our family.

At the time, I was teaching Kindergarten at a school that would soon be closing. I had been hired at a new school being built and had been attending several Master's classes for the following year. During all of this, I was struggling to be a "mommy" to my 2 other little ones, working full time and trying to find time to be a wife and spend some time with Dave. I was really hitting burn out!

When I found out I was pregnant, and that all was going well with the baby, Dave and I talked many times and decided that it was time to stay home and finally be a full-time "mommy"! I was very nervous! However, I foresaw the future of getting 3 kids, 4 and under ready for a babysitter in the morning, surviving another year of isolation spending my breaks in my room pumping, getting home at 6 p.m. to fix dinner and put the kids in bed, NOT having time to spend with them, and I knew it was the right decision to stay home.

With Brooklyn, I have really understood the joys of parenting! I have been able to embrace the role of a mom, a role I found difficult to embrace with my older 2 as I worked full time and barely saw them during the week. I will always be thankful for those who so kindly watched Madison and Jacob during my first years teaching, and for the values instilled in their young minds. It was comfort for me knowing they were still being raised righteously while I was away. We were fortunate to not have to use daycare as our source of care for them. I really am not sure I can measure up to what each of you did, but I am so thankful that I can now be home with them.

So glad your are in our family!

Good-bye Nosebleeds

Our little Madison had been having really bad (severe) nosebleeds for about 2 years now, and they were getting worse. We decided that she has pretty high allergies and is always itching and rubbing her nose. Because of that, the membranes in her nose were very thin, causing her nose to bleed at the slightest touch or rub.

So this last summer, she was very brave and endured 2 different surgeries, 6 wks apart to have each side of her nose cauterized. Her first surgery was difficult for her and she had a hard time coming out of the anesthetic, however, the 2nd one was a breeze!

We are so VERY happy to report that we have only had 1 nosebleed, (due to being hit by a hula-hoop), but NOT due to itching her nose! So very glad she was able to have this done before starting kindergarten!

So Afraid...of ME!

I know, If you met me at walmart, and you were standing behind the service desk, or at a checkout, you might be really afraid of me. (I tend to get a little testy when shopping!) Or if you were to be in the car with me at 7:00 p.m. and I haven't had dinner yet, YES, you would be sorely afraid of me! (I am a bear if not fed!) And even yet, if you were to even TRY to mess with MY family...you would run...and hide...and stay very far away! (I tend to defend them, stand up for them, and protect them at ALL cost!)

And even "I" am afraid of "ME"! Not because of any of the aformentioned reasons...but I have come to the conclusion that I have a real fear of how I look! How ridiculously insane is this? I obviously can't run and hide from myself...I present myself to many parents and children daily...at work, shopping, at the pool, paying bills, family functions...etc. So if I am okay going out in public, and letting the entire world see ME, why then would I "hide" whenever the camera comes along?

I was frantically looking for a picture of me to put in a book for preschool that we had recently made. I looked in EVERY photo envelope I had (at least 65) and not one, no, not ONE single picture of me...how sad is that!

So I resolve that from this day forward, no matter what my body shape, size, hair color, etc. I will learn to let the camera be my friend and quit hiding behind it--pretending to be the photographer!

And just maybe, I will be motivated enough to change this image I see, into something a little "eye" friendlier for me and everyone else who has to look!

eye sores and photoshots!

Sisterly Love

Brooklyn has been on an EXTREME Madison kick lately! The other night at dinner she would NOT let Jacob sit by her. She had the plate and everything picked out for Madison to sit right beside her. She has had to watch movies w/madison, protect her toys, her birthday crown, her food...everything! She has even gone to the extent of begging to sleep in Jacobs bed to be with Madison! She ADORES her older sister!

Today as Madison was getting Brooklyn out of the car, I hear: "Madison I LIKE you! Madison, I LOVE you!" Such cute words! I am SO thankful that Madison is such a great big sister and cares so much for Brooklyn. What a GREAT example that Brooklyn has to look up to! I love you girls!

Nose Breath and cuddles!

So I am laying w/my 4 year old, who is fascinated w/the discoveries he makes in life. As I am cuddling him, our faces close together, rubbing his hair (so he will fall asleep) he opens his once closed eyes and asks: Mom, does my nose breath feel really, really warm to you?"

Seriously child, Nose Breath? I LOVE his claim on terms in life!

Poverty and Chickens?

Many of you think that because I was raised in Idaho, in farm country, that I would be all about the down home cookin' thing. Or maybe you know my dad, who would randomly bring an "animal" home and cook it for dinner--claiming he found it on "the side of the road"!

Folks...I am quite the opposite! In fact, so opposite that I am really considering becoming a vegetarian...seriously!

This afternoon I pulled out a "bird" for dinner. Now mind you, it was a WHOLE bird! I found it on "special" at Smiths Marketplace. Gotta love that place for their great specials! Since we have become more frugal in our grocery spending, I decided I would buy this so called "bird" and cook it myself instead of spending the money on my favorite: Boneless, Skinless Chicken Breast!

So I pulled it out of the fridge, unwrapped it, and began rinsing it off in the sink...and GROSSNESS came upon me! I saw feathers, little tiny ones, vein vessels and fat deposits! Then my imagination got the best of me and I started thinking of this poor animal I was holding, and how at one time it was just clucking away on some farm not even aware that I would even consider eating it for dinner! As I rinsed its legs and wings and neck and pulled something from the inside I wondered WHY I was even thinking of eating this BIRD!

Relentlessly, I finished washing it, put it carefully in the crock pot w/some lemon pepper seasoning and butter and prayed that my children would enjoy a nice home-cooked meal of chicken and rice!

Let me NEVER forget, nor take advantage again , of all the butchers in life that spoil us with boneless, skinless, chicken breast that does NOT look like a chicken! It's a pretty penny to pay, but ever so worth it! I may need to be frugal in my grocery spending, but I will vow to find the extra pennies to buy "MY" kind of chicken!

Thus, let the farmers be farmers and the butchers be butchers, but let me enjoy my chicken in peace!

6 year old birthday party...

Seriously, I don't remember when...or even why...but it has happened...I've become wrapped up in the excitement and celebration of my children's birthday parties! I've always considered myself "simple", but I think I am proving myself drastically wrong! But oh how fun, to get wrapped up in the joy of a 6 year olds birthday party!

We have chosen our theme: "Movie Star Night" and how carried away we have become...especially on our limited budget! It has been fun to be so resourceful and so creative!

So here is a huge thanks for all who have helped make this extravagant moment come together!

Walmart Lady for being SO generous in the material! We love it!
Grandma Adams for sewing the boas--they are SO adorable!
Kristen for dinner the night before, the popcorn machine AND the adorable invitations!
Scrapbook store for carrying such creative and fun invitations!
Annette for volunteering her photograph talent! So excited for what you are doing!
Dollar store for being SO cheap!
All of Madison's little friends for celebrating w/her!

We are SO excited for tomorrow! We'll post pictures after our wild extravaganza!

Brilliant Baby!

So this week it is just Brooklyn and I, as Dave has taken Madison and Jacob with him to work in Idaho. It is our first day alone, just the 2 of us, and we are certainly enjoying our day! Brooklyn and I have had "moments" alone, but never a full week and she is reminding me every moment that she comes FIRST! Oh how I LOVE her!

As I have spent the day with her, I have realized how brilliant she really is. (she doesn't get nearly the recognition she deserves being the 3rd in line!) Her favorite saying right now is "Look! mommy! Look!" She reminds me of Little Quack, in the famous book, Little Quacks Bedtime. And "h'mon mommy!" for c'mon mommy!

So today was spent counting to 10, singing the abc's (all day long), playing the abc games on starfall.com, and playing Toy Story Yahtzee Jr., a favorite game of all 3 kids! Yahtzee Jr is the greatest invention, as all 3 kids, ranging from almost 6 down to almost 2 can play all at the same time and be happy, content, and patient as they wait their turn!

Then as we are on the computer, to which she loves, she says, "mommy I want to see it" (the monkey) and after seeing it, she says, "mommy, I saw it". O.K. not even 2 yet and has the tenses down perfectly.

She also LOVES cupcakes, and grandma Adams sent some home with us on Sunday. First thing this morning, she sees them sitting on the counter and says, "mommy, I want a cupcake". Me, getting her prepped to eat the cupcake, gets reprimanded from the little one when she says, "mommy, I want it NOW!"

I miss my little ones in Idaho, but I am also looking forward to this quiet week with just one little one at home! She sure is full of LIFE!

Oh, what a summer!

So after my 2 VERY lengthy novels, I decided to be short and quick! I'm sure all you readers will be very appreciative! The last 3 weeks have been very fun for our family. Unfortunately, our camera disk has an issue and will not release the pictures I have on it...so only one photo to show our fun!
We spent a week in St. George with our really good friends, the Borups. We can't wait to go back and visit them! We both decided that 2 wives and 1 husband isn't so bad when it comes to sharing responsibilities between children! Thanks you guys for the great hospitality and good times!
We got back a day before the Adams Family reunion and had so much fun with all of the cousins, and in-laws! There were lots of games introduced and played, talent shows performed and people everywhere! It was a fun-filled, social weekend!
Our final "trip" planned is to Twin Falls this coming weekend for my cousins wedding. I must be getting old when one of the youngest of the cousin's is getting married. That really wasn't suppose to happen for a LONG time:) The kids are excited to see daddy, (he has been working on some properties of Grandpa Haney's) and they miss him a ton--so do I! .
Hopefully the camera will get fixed soon and I can post some more pictures of all our fun! We are so grateful for such wonderful family and friends!

butterfly kisses

Here is a picture of my cute, but toothless, little one who LOVES to have her face painted! (I'm thinking...All I want for Christmas is my 2 front teeth!) Once we got home she had to put on a fancy pink dress to complete the butterfly outfit...I can FLY!

An entry for me, because I have grown..

Tonight, I cried. Partly because I could, partly because I was tired. I thought it was because I went to bed at 2, and was up again at 6:30. And then I reflected on the past week.

Dave left... he is in Twin Falls, indefinitely, until some rentals are fixed up and ready to sell. I feel alone. I come home each night, with 3 little ones, to an empty home. The porch light is not even left on, I'm sure it was because I forgot that Dave really isn't home tonight and I didn't turn it on.

Our week began with news that our friends were in a serious accident just before father's day. Being able to help them has been a great opportunity for us to serve our Heavenly Father. It is truly amazing how quickly a life can be taken from us, and at the same time how another's life can be so blessed. Our prayers go out to their sweet family. Although they are mourning a loss, they are also celebrating a life. They have witnessed many miracles through this difficult time and it strengthens my testimony of the power of the Priesthood and the plan that our Heavenly Father has for each of us. Treasure and cherish each day that you have with your families...make each day the very best and remember to emulate love around you!

Madison had surgery, that ended up being an all day adventure. My sweet little girl didn't understand why she was in so much pain and felt so dizzy and sick. When she went in, she was a typical healthy and happy little girl. When she came out, she was grumpy, tired, hungry and in a LOT of pain. I sat and held her in the chair for hours. It felt good to have some alone time with her, although, next time, I know we will be doing something much better for our girls adventure! I was saddened that Dave wasn't there for me to lean on. I am so used to him being there for every little thing our family goes through. I guess some would say, SPOILED. I was very THANKFUL for great family and neighbors who were there to help give a blessing and watch the kids!

I had to load the car twice with garage sale "stuff" by myself, to make a mere $100. That was honestly harder than a days work teaching! I took for granted all the times Dave got up early to set up tables and pull out the "junk". I would roll out of bed at 7:00, get dressed and start to sell. He would take care of the kids while I "socialized" with the public.

Today, I had to get the kids up by six, spend until 3:00 selling our junk, while wrestling 3 little hooligans, endure the pains of a royal sunburn, deliver the unsold to D.I., repack the empty boxes, sunshades, tables, etc. , drive 3 cranky tired kids home, unpack the full car to get to the 3 now-sleeping-kids, haul the kids up to their beds--one at a time, console a tired one who cut her foot getting out of the car, and finally re-put her back in bed. I now look forward to going in to kiss their sweet chubby cheeks goodnight. They really did endure well today.

Then, with a husband gone, I have had my usual car trouble. It always happens when my "fix-it-all" husband is away, and I am here alone, to solve the problem. Mind you, with 3 small children in tow! Thankfully, they too are once again patient, as for the 5th time this week, the car won't start, and we have to find someone with jumper cables, because mom's forgetful mind has forgotten to replace them in the van. I never seem to remember until I need them, although I pass them in the garage daily! Thank you Brett and the Lamb's for bailing me out on many occasions! I think I'll be walking from now on!

Now, to end my evening, the Bishop would like to meet with me tomorrow at 1:00. So, at 10:00 at night, I have decided that all will work out in the end. Church ends at noon, the kids will come home, eat lunch and with my GOOD luck, fall right asleep for a great nap. The DILEMMA? I am suppose to be able to take a nap tomorrow while they are sleeping...! And now, to find someone to sit with the 3 sleeping beauties tomorrow! I guess I will retire to bed early tomorrow!

I am beginning to realize just how very selfish my life has become. Those around me might describe me as generous and full of service, and I would like to agree. However, when it comes to my immediate family, I think I have let them down a little. It has literally taken a miracle for me to see the trap I was in. My Heavenly Father is REALLY looking out for me. In the last month, I feel closer to Him than I have in a very long time. I am soooo very grateful for the last 4 months that I have had to learn, and grow...spiritually and emotionally. If I dare say so, I think I am beginning to "act my age" spiritually. Dave's job loss has been such a blessing for us. Yes, we have altered our lives significantly, as one should in this situation, and we are going to come out the better for it. We may not have a whole lot of worldly wealth right now, but we have each other and our 3 wonderful kids! And that is everything we need right now.

I LOVE my husband. I am very grateful for what he has provided us with. I miss him and can't wait for him to come home. I hope that I am a changed person when he returns because my life has been so richly blessed for having him in it. Do not look back on yesterday, but look forward to tomorrow and make it better than the day before. I need him in my life and feel such peace with what lies ahead for the two of us. It may NOT always be easy, but I KNOW that with him, it is sooo worth it!

I thank my Heavenly Father for the blessings that he has sent me...I know He lives...He loves us and is aware of our every need. We may not see what lies ahead of us, but He knows and if we stay close to Him, it will be revealed to us, when the time is right. Have faith and press forward!
I love the familiar primary chorus: "lead me guide me walk beside me, help me find the way, teach me all that I must do, to live with him some day." I sing it many times during the week to my little kiddo's and know they feel the spirit when they hear those words. I know that He is leading us as we walk through life and that if I let Him guide me that I will live with Him some day...I look forward to that day, to sit with my dear family and friends beside me. Through these trying times, my faith has increased, I have felt humbled. I have been filled with much love. I hope the patience comes next! I sincerely pray that it continues to grow stronger and that I can really be a blessing to my own family as I come to appreciate the true beauty that they are in my life! Love to you all, my dear Dave, Madison, Jacob and Brooklyn. You are truly the treasures in my life!

Goodnight and sweet dreams!

5 love languages of children...and "dugs for sale"

I recently dug up, and yes...literally...dug...out of the garage...a box. A medium sized box. I was EXTREMELY happy to find this medium box. In this medium box were some books. Some very important books...Some very important books I would like to READ...not just sit in the medium sized BOX...

So the other day, I unpacked these important books out of the medium box and started to read! It was amazing! I read in the day...the middle of the day...and very late into the night...and any other time I could find to read these important books from the medium box. I was intrigued by what I was reading...so much that I am using my new important knowledge from the medium box on my little children. And oh, oh, oh how it works!

See, I love these 3 little children very much. And I want to understand thier little minds very much. I want to be the best little mommy for these little children....So I read, and learn, and apply, practice and re-apply and then I start the cycle all over again.

The little treasure I dug out of the medium sized box is the book titled "the 5 love languages of children"...and I like it very much! I have learned to become a better listener when I am with my little ones. I have learned to touch more...to hug and kiss, rock and hold, dance and jump--I have learned to give them little gifts when they have done something really, really well---I have learned to spend time with them...to get down on the floor and play cars, babies, playdough, go on bike rides, play at the park(not just sit on the bench)...I have learned how important it is to speak words of love and praise so that THEY understand it...I have learned to LIVE in the lives of a 5, 4 and 1 year old..and I LOVE it!

I am so glad for buried treasures that are found! I am thankful for "enlightened" moments that make me want to be a better person--and especially a better mother to my 3 little children who I love so dearly. There is always a new adventure when children are around...yesterday I found enough patience to let 3 little ones dig dirt out of a hole, find worms in it, make the worms a home in a little 3" cup, make a sign to put on the front door that reads: dugs for sale.. and get so excited to sell them! They really are TREASURES in my life!

Rainy days and Sundays somehow turn around...

It was an absolutely amazing Sunday Morning....The kids and I wanted to get up early and walk to church today (they are really into walking lately)...but it was RAINING! Anywhooo...Dave got up and went to correlation this morning at 7:30, so I knew I would have to be up early to get the kids breakfast, dressed and in the car to be on time for church today. We are always at least 20 min. late--whoops!

Brooklyn woke up sometime in the middle of the night and wouldn't settle, so we finally put her in bed with us and tried to go back to sleep. However, it is nearly impossible with a 1 1/2 year old kicking you, trying to define "HER" space in "OUR" bed. Then she decided to wake up when
Dave did--I wasn't quite ready for this, but decided I had better get the show on the road! Shortly after, Madison and Jacob woke up and I quickly whipped them into gear:) We had already had baths last night and church clothes picked out, so I felt we were one step ahead of the game! I quickly made some yummy cinnamon roll oatmeal--their favorite--got each of them dressed and hair done and had them sit on the couch quietly to read some books while I got ready. Surprisingly, they did as told, I was able to get ready in about 15 minutes and we were 2 minutes late/on-time for us! The kids all went in happily to their classes. Brooklyn was our usual handfull during Sacrament Meeting, but 1/2 way through she fell asleep--oh how wonderful for me! Then all 3 kids came home and took a great afternoon nap! All is well in Zion today--okay, so our home is reall y NOT zion, but today it sure felt like it! Thanks kiddo's for helping to have a wonderful morning!

Count My Many Blessings...

After reading my cousins blog about quiet times and reflections, I felt inspired to share my thoughts tonight. I've been meaning to do this for a while and it seems like the nights are so busy. So thanks Matt--for inspiring me to take these few moments to be thankful and reflect upon the great blessings in my life.

I have to be so grateful for the time I have to spend with Dave right now. It is NOT easy to have him out of work--especially with the struggle of finding a job in this crazy economy. However, we both feel that it was a good thing, and that good will come of it. We are enjoying getting to "know" each other again. It seemed like 6 long years of tag team with work and kids and we had very little time to spend together. So, it has been so nice to enjoy "dating" again.

I am also so very grateful for such a sweet cousin! Debi--you seem to amaze me in every way and are there when the kids and I need it the most! You have touched my heart in the most amazing way with your sensitivity to the kids and their frustrations in moving. Jacob has taken to Leah and just LOVES his playdates with her. He is always soooo excited when he comes home and he told me today that he even likes macaroni and cheese now--"so don't worry mom--one of your kids likes it now":) Thanks you so much for letting our kiddo's share this friendship!

I am thankful for all of the little "ANGELS" that are looking out for our family! You are all so amazing and I am thankful for all of your little secret sharings! Tonight we had the kids in bed, all except Brooklyn, and we were eating dinner and talking when the doorbell rang. I didn't hear a "hello" when Dave answered, and he soon came back into the room holding the cutest pot of paper flowers and candy! What a special moment to be thought of tonight! Also, I had the cutest preschool mom "over-pay" me and when I tried to figure it out--she said it was a little bonus! The thoughtfulness keeps pouring in from the most un-expected moments.

I took Madison and Jacob to gymnastics tonight--it is always so much fun to watch them! One of the things I love the most is seeing them learn a new skill and sharing it with a look over thier shoulder at me! The look on their faces says"Look mom--I did it!" ever so proud! I am so proud of them and the milestones they have made in gym. Another thing I love is the teacher/child relationship! It is the ONLY gymnastics place we have found that has the belief and philosophy of building the esteem of the child. Each teacher (and there are several) lives and portrays this theme to all of the children all of the time! I am grateful for their confidence, patience and time spent with my own children and hope it is something my kids will be able to continue! A HUGE THANKS to FLIPS gymnastics for a job very well done! My children love you!

Last night I had some errands to run and I was listening to music while driving. As I got to the end and was ready to head home I thought that I could just keep on driving down the freeway--with no end in sight and never looking back. It was so peaceful to just drive and think. And the force that brought me to exit the freeway and head home was my sweet husband and three adorable little children--who count on me and depend on me in the most important way. I love them so much and am so grateful for their smiling faces and happy expectations in life!

I believe their are angels among us, sent down to us from somewhere up above...they come to you and me in our darkest moments, to show us how to live, to teach us how to give, to guide us with a light of LOVE! Thank you to all of you ANGELS out there--whoever, and wherever you are!

St. Patrick's Day Parade

Our favorite, the bagpipers!
this is green!

the green machine

The "gang" watching the parade go by

My cute girls ready for the day

Cold weather, again!

Just as fast as the good weather came, it left us! We were back to coats, gloves and boots for this one!

A little taste of spring...

The kids have been soooo anxious to get out and play. When the weather warmed up they begged to ride bikes and shoot balls. Madison just learned how to ride her bike without training wheels--yeah madi! And jake is a huge sports fan and is loving the basketball hoop that grandma gave him.

The Story of the "Little Red Hen"...(Adams Style)

One day, Alison decided to make some bread. She noticed that everyone around her was starting to make their own bread and it seemed pretty easy. Now, she was raised on her dad's famous wheat bread, but his recipe seemed to be a 24 hour process. With 3 little kids to help, she thought it would be wiser to find a "simpler" recipe. Especially since this would be her first attempt. One day, her visiting teacher stopped by and announced that she had a wonderful recipe to try, with a DVD to show you how to do it. Alison thought that was a great idea. Another day, her mother-in-law, Maureen, sent a loaf of homemade bread back with Dave and mentioned that she, too, had a great recipe she used. Alison liked the idea of grinding the wheat, kneading the dough, watching it rise, baking the bread and finally eating it. She liked the idea of having fresh ground wheat to use for her bread--yum! So she asked: Who will help me grind the wheat? Maureen said: I will! Who will help me mix the dough? Jacob said: I will! Who will help me bake the bread? Madison said: I will! So, she used the ground wheat (sent from Maureen), she kneaded the dough (thanks to the Bosch and Jacob), she watched it rise for 45 minutes (thanks to yeast and an oven) and she baked the bread (thanks to Madison). Then she said: Who will help me eat the bread? Just then Dave walked in from work, took one little sniff... and said: I WILL! And so there we sat, eating the most delicious homemade wheat bread---made from scratch!
*My idea is to start simple and work my way into my dad's recipes. He really does put a lot into his bread and makes it everytime we visit! The kids absolutely love it and it is so healthy. I also figured that it costs about $.50-.75 a loaf compared to $4.00 at great harvest! And it has no preservatives or sugar.
